Information
“To act as a resource point for individuals and organisations”
SSVA is an information point, providing help with specific inquiries and able to put people in touch with more specialised agencies.
-Provides information and advice about every aspect of voluntary activity; charity registration; government policy; constitution matters; good practice in working with volunteers; good practice in managing organisations.
-Has a Resource Centre containing voluntary sector journals, books, newsletters, good practice guides, videos, and leaflets about other voluntary organisations.
-Answers telephone enquiries on details of services in area.
-Provides grant/funding information, from the Grant Finder programme.
-Produces VOLE, our quarterly newsletter with details of groups’ activities, updates on relevant legislation, local funding news, articles on good practice and information from other voluntary organisations.
-Holds a complete listing of all voluntary groups known to SSVA.
-Produces information leaflets, e.g. support groups, volunteer charters and guidelines on how to involve volunteers.
-The South Shropshire Care Information Provider (SSCIP) provides information on health and care issues, leaflets on health and care (which can be downloaded from the publications page) and online information via the Shropshire County Councils website "Community Directory" section wwws.shropshire.gov.uk/community.nsf.
Training
SSVA is striving to become a Centre of Excellence for Voluntary and Community training. Delivering the needs of the sector to the sector. Training course topics include:

Finance Support Service
SSVA are now offering a Finance Support Service to help individuals, groups or organisations to manage their finances better.
We are offering:
- Tailor made sessions for individuals, groups or organisations in receipt of monies,
- Help set up basic budgeting systems, to meet the needs of the group/organisation /individual.
- Support for Treasurers with the production of a toolkit and other practical materials.
- Written, CD & Website material explaining clearly and simply how to prepare for year-end and, how to manage your grant and where to go for help.
- Payroll Service.

Networking
“To link voluntary organisations and improve co-operation between agencies”
SSVA sets up and supports forums and networks, with the aim of increasing co-ordination between local services, agencies and bodies to ensure coherence & effective working.

Representation
“To further the involvement of the voluntary sector in strategic policy and planning.”
Facilitating of a greater voice at decision-making level, SSVA is set up to represent the best interests of the voluntary and community sector through the active involvement of our membership. SSVA provides an effective contribution to the development and implementation of policy. Acting as advocates for our members and promoting equality and diversity, SSVA often acts as pathfinders for the involvement of voluntary groups, bringing knowledge, expertise and experience of voluntary groups into the process, on behalf of people and causes they work for.
-Participate in partnership activities in the district - South Shropshire Local Strategic Partnership, the Community Safety Partnership, the Rosebud Partnership, Ludlow Marches Partnership, Domestic Violence Forum, Shropshire Approval Group, Shropshire Programme Management Team.
-Respond to consultation processes and documents, local authority, national government and other agencies.
-Encourage representation of the voluntary sector - both large and small groups.
-SSVA is facilitating the development of the South Shropshire Local Compact
SSVA’s approach uses communication and networking within the sector to undertake representation with one co-ordinated voice. Such an approach includes: Calling voluntary groups together to prepare a response to a consultation document. Raising awareness of consultations & disseminate consultation documents. Representing its members on issues and encourage participation whenever possible. As part of this, consult members directly and feedback actions taken.
Support
“To support and develop the work of voluntary and community organisations”
SSVA supports and advises voluntary organisations on setting up and meeting charity obligations.
-Listen and support individual workers to develop services and their own personal development.
-Provide funding advice and support applications.
-Provide advice and information on managing voluntary organisations and governance issues.
-Provide access to administration services for small organisations.
-Create opportunities for voluntary organisations to access equipment.
-Support and assist organisations with monitoring, policies and quality standards.
Room/Equipment Hire
The Meeting Room
Our meeting room can be hired hourly, half day or whole day, for meetings, training sessions or interviewing. It can seat up to 12 in board room style and up 15 in theatre style. We have equipment including TV/Video, overhead projector and flip chart.

VOLE Newsletter - Spreading the word
VOLE aims to provide information on volunteering and voluntary activities. News from voluntary and community groups are welcomed. We would like to hear about any volunteering opportunities within your organisation and any events you are participating in. We would also like to include articles about what is going on in your organisation - what you do, who you help etc. Reviews of any useful books you have read and website recommendations would also be welcome. There is no charge for articles to be included in VOLE. Deadlines for articles: the fist week in February, May, August and November for distribution at the end of that month.
